Note: This feature is available only to administrators and to inventory assistants with permission to edit product data.
User-defined information is product data that isn't covered by the standard data fields like common name, primary CAS number, and specific gravity. Administrators can create any number of user-defined fields, each field becoming a new type of data that can be recorded for each product. For any product, you can record one or more items of information in each user-defined field.
Edit a product's user-defined information when you need to add, edit, or delete a recorded item of user-defined information. When a user-defined field isn't available for the information you want to add, see Managing User-Defined Fields for details on adding a new one to your system.
To edit a product's user-defined information:
Starting at the Product Information page
Click the EDIT button at the top of the display.
Note: This button appears only when you are logged in as a) an administrator, or b) an inventory assistant with permission to edit product data.
The Information Administration page opens, showing the areas of product data you can edit.
In the Modify Indexes area, click User Defined Info.
The User Defined Information display shows the product's current user-defined information.
Do any of the following:
To add a new item of user-defined information: Click Add New in the upper left. Select the new item's type, then enter its information in the field provided. Then click the save () icon to save the new item of information.
To edit an existing item of user-defined information: Click the item you want to edit. Edit its information in the field provided. Then click the save () icon to save the change.
To delete an existing item of user-defined information: Click the delete () icon of the item you want to delete.
Note: If you need to refer to the product's MSDS, click [View MSDS] in the upper right to open the product's MSDS in a new window.
Each change immediately takes effect for any user simple searching, advanced searching, or browsing the product list by a user-defined field.
